Men
Halloween is not just for the sugar seeking youth of America anymore. Adult Halloween parties are gaining in popularity each year, and nowadays the average American is likely to spend more on a costume and party favors than the bags of candy for the neighborhood trick-or-treaters. The internet is strewn with online costume shops featuring a multitude of selections from caveman to captain. Of course, costuming is not just for October, as theme parties occur all year round. One of the most fun themes is a seventies theme, which can go hand in hand with some great party music and a disco ball.
Halloween is the easiest night of the year to meet and socialize with strangers. Without the rigorous standards of party dress codes, people are more likely to open up with everyone looking ridiculous, or ridiculously sexy. Halloween costumes for women are becoming more and more scantily clad, without much objection from the opposite sex. Almost considered a “night of fantasy,” Halloween has become an exhilarating experience for adults, while still remaining a sugar-filled adventure for America’s youth.
Why is disco such a popular theme for Halloween costume parties? There are several reasons for this. First, there is no exact as to what disco wear should be, especially for men. It isn’t like dressing up as a character from a movie, where many details are needed to make the costume work. For men, and even to a certain extent women, a disco costume is simple yet effective, and since it is merely dressing up as a certain time period, it can sometimes include household items or articles of clothing from home. Even if you have no bell-bottoms or gold medallions lying around the back of your closet, disco wear from an online costume shop is relatively cheap, considering you are buying it, not renting it.
All that is needed for a man’s disco costume is a jacket, vest, and bell bottom pants. Platform shoes are a plus, but not totally necessary. A wig can increase the effect, but so can hair styled like the times. If you are going to attach any fake hair to your body, make it a patch of chest hair (unless you are have been gifted with your own curly garden). Other accessories may include necklaces, sunglasses, or large gold rings. Even a toothpick can increase the effect and help hustle the party into disco fever mode.
If you are expecting any “dancing queens” at your next Halloween party, you will probably want to be big papa polyester and catch yourself a foxy brown. Imagine making your entrance, removing your aviator shades, popping up your collar and unbuttoning those top few buttons to reveal your gold dollar sign necklace resting comfortably in a thick bed of dark curly chest hair. You will certainly catch the eye of any disco babe and boogie until it’s 1979.
